Assistant Stage Manager

Reports to: Production Stage Manager/ Production Supervisor
Job Type: Part-Time, Contract
Location: Dexter, MI

Role Description:
The Assistant Stage Manager (ASM) plays a vital role in supporting the Stage Manager and ensuring the smooth execution of rehearsals and performances. The ASM works closely with the director, cast, crew, and designers to facilitate communication, maintain production documentation, and assist with all technical and logistical aspects of the show.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Support the Stage Manager during rehearsals, tech, and performances.
  • Track props, costumes, and set pieces, and manage their placement and transitions.
  • Take detailed rehearsal notes and maintain updated tracking and run sheets.
  • Oversee backstage areas during performances, ensuring safety and efficiency.
  • Run backstage tracks as assigned.
  • Ensure that rehearsal and performance spaces are prepared and restored before and after use.
  • Attend all required meetings, rehearsals, and performances.

Qualifications:

  • Must be 18+ years of age
  • Strong organizational, multitasking, and communication skills.
  • Ability to work effectively under pressure and adapt to changing circumstances.
  • Familiarity with the Google Suite.
  • Knowledge of theatrical production elements (lighting, sound, props, costumes).
  • Ability to lift and carry up to 30 lbs, climb stairs/ladders, and work in dark or confined backstage areas.
  • Prior experience as an ASM or similar theatrical role strongly preferred.
Sound Technician/A2

Reports to: Resident Audio Engineer
Job Type: Contract
Location: Dexter, MI

Role Description:
The Sound Technician/A2 is the Audio Engineer/A1’s right hand person. They are responsible for setting up audio equipment and getting actors into mics prior to tech rehearsals and performances. They also serve as the backstage sound liaison should mic problems arise during a performance.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Prepare soundboards and equipment for rehearsals and shows.
  • Set up microphones on performers.
  • Set up microphones, monitors, and other equipment as directed by the Audio Engineer (A1)
  • Repairing and reporting broken sound equipment to the Audio Engineer (A1)
  • In the event of the A1 being gone, the A2 takes their place.
  • Collaborate with other crew members, cast, and production staff to ensure smooth show operations.
  • Communicate clearly and professionally with the stage management team and fellow crew members.
  • Assist in the preparation of backstage and onstage areas before and after each performance.
  • Execute assigned backstage duties such as set changes, prop handoffs, or costume assistance.
  • Attend all required tech rehearsals and performances.
  • Participate in strike and end-of-run clean up as assigned.

Qualifications:

  • Must be 18+ years of age
  • Proficiency in wireless microphone systems (Sennheiser G3 and Sennheiser EW-DX preferred)
  • Proficiency in at least one basic mic techniques (face mic, halo, high/low forehead, etc)
  • Basic technology understanding (i.e. being able to recognize when equipment is malfunctioning)
  • Ability to work in low-light and fast-paced environments.
  • Strong work ethic, punctuality, and attention to detail.
  • Ability to problem solve effectively under pressure and adapt to changing circumstances.
  • Willingness to follow instructions and work collaboratively as part of a team.
Crew/Mic Technician

Reports to: Production Supervisor/Resident Audio Engineer
Job Type: Contract
Location: Dexter, MI

Role Description:
The Crew/Mic Technician is an essential part of the backstage team, responsible for the safe and efficient execution of technical and logistical elements during tech rehearsals and performances. This role requires a multi-talented individual that has experience with various aspects of live theatre as this role may involve scene changes, prop handoffs, wardrobe assistance, and emergency mic maintenance.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Execute assigned backstage duties such as set changes, prop handoffs, or costume assistance.
  • Provide assistance to the Audio Engineer/A1 and Sound Technician/A2 with pre-show set up and emergency mic swaps during performances as needed.
  • Thoroughly clean and prepare backstage and onstage areas before and after each performance.
  • Handle props, scenic elements, and equipment with care and attention to safety.
  • Collaborate with other crew members, cast, and production staff to ensure smooth show operations.
  • Attend all required tech rehearsals and performances.
  • Participate in strike and end-of-run clean up as assigned.
  • Communicate clearly and professionally with the stage management team and fellow crew members.

Qualifications:

  • Must be 18+ years of age
  • Basic knowledge of backstage safety and etiquette.
  • Ability to work in low-light and fast-paced environments.
  • Strong work ethic, punctuality, and attention to detail.
  •  Able to lift and carry up to 30 lbs, climb stairs or ladders, and stand for extended periods.
  • Willingness to follow instructions and work collaboratively as part of a team.
  • Desire to learn new skills and ability to learn quickly.
  • Experience with wireless microphones is preferred but not required.
Spotlight Operator

Reports to: Production Stage Manager/ Production Supervisor
Job Type: Contract
Location: Dexter, MI

Role Description:
The Spotlight Operator is responsible for operating a followspot (spotlight) during tech rehearsals and performances. This role involves precise cue execution, strong communication, and close coordination with the lighting team and Stage Manager to highlight performers and enhance visual storytelling onstage.

Key Responsibilities:

  •  Operate followspot(s) according to lighting cues provided by the Lighting Designer or Stage Manager.
  • Maintain focus, positioning, color changes, and intensity as required for each cue.
  • Conduct pre-show checks of the spotlight equipment to ensure it is clean, functional, and safely positioned.
  • Collaborate with other crew members, cast, and production staff to ensure smooth show operations.
  • Attend all required tech rehearsals and performances.
  • Participate in strike and end-of-run clean up as assigned.

Qualifications:

  •  Must be 18+ years of age, or 16-17 with a work permit from your school
  • Prior experience as a spotlight operator or familiarity with theatrical lighting preferred.
  • Ability to follow detailed instructions and respond quickly to cues.
  • Good eyesight, hand-eye coordination, and timing.
  • Ability to work in low-light and fast-paced environments.
  • Strong work ethic, punctuality, and attention to detail.
Wardrobe Supervisor

   Reports to: Costume Designer/Costume Shop Manager
Job Type: Contract
Location: Dexter, MI

Role Description:
The Wardrobe Supervisor manages the dressers, ensures costume continuity and performer readiness, and acts as the primary liaison between the costume designer, performers, and production team. The Wardrobe Supervisor ensures that costumes are properly organized, maintained, and efficiently managed throughout the rehearsal and performance process. They may assist the Costume Designer in fitting during the rehearsal process.

Key Responsibilities:

  • After receiving a costume plot and piece list from the Costume Designer, the Wardrobe Supervisor creates tracking paperwork for costumes and costume
  • Assign tracks to Dressers and work with Stage Manager and Assistant Stage Manager(s) if additional support for changes is needed.
  • Ensures actors have access to items such as make-up remover, anti-Static guard, bobby pins, wig caps etc.
  • Maintain costumes during the run of the show including:
    • Collecting and performing daily laundry duties.
    • Work with the Shop Manager to ensure a proper cleaning schedule of all garments (dry cleaning, etc)
    • Applying freshener sprays as needed
    • Making repairs to costumes as needed
  • Attends the Designer Run, Tech Rehearsals, (when costumes are utilized), Dress Rehearsals, and all Performances.
  • Work with the Costume Designer and Shop Manager after the run to ensure all costume pieces are properly laundered or dry cleaned.
  • Assist in collecting, organizing and returning costume pieces and accessories to the proper storage areas.

Qualifications:

  • Extensive experience in wardrobe management or theatrical costuming.
  • Strong leadership and organizational skills.
  • Proficient in sewing, garment repair, and fabric care.
  • Ability to read and create costume plots, change lists, and production paperwork.
  • Excellent communication skills and professionalism in working with performers
    and creative teams.
  • Comfortable working in fast-paced backstage environments and handling quick changes under pressure.
  • Familiarity with period costumes, specialty garments, and costume crafts.
  • General knowledge of wig, hair, and makeup coordination.
Dresser

Reports to: Wardrobe Supervisor/Production Supervisor
Job Type: Contract
Location: Dexter, MI

Role Description:
The Dresser is a key member of the wardrobe team. They are responsible for assisting performers with quick changes, maintaining costume organization, and ensuring that garments are clean, repaired, and performance-ready. The Dresser works under the direction of the Wardrobe Supervisor and supports the overall efficiency and smooth operation of costume-related tasks during a production.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Assist performers with dressing, quick changes, and costume maintenance during rehearsals and performances.
  • Follow costume change plots and cue sheets accurately.
  • Assist Wardrobe Supervisor in the set up and organization of dressing rooms, costume racks, and quick-change areas.
  • Perform pre-show costume checks to ensure all pieces are accounted for and in good condition.
  • Handle costume repairs, steaming, and light cleaning (e.g., spot cleaning, minor stitching) as needed.
  • Support post-show duties, including collecting, hanging, cleaning and prepping costumes for the next performance.
  • Work closely with the Wardrobe Supervisor and costume team to troubleshoot wardrobe issues quickly.

Qualifications:

  • Basic sewing and garment care skills.
  •  Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Ability to stay calm under pressure and handle quick-change situations efficiently.
  • Ability to work in low-light, crowded, and fast-paced environments.
  • Discretion and professionalism in handling performer interactions and backstage activity.
  • Experience with wigs, wig maintenance, or speciality garments (i.e. period costumes) is a bonus.
Assistant Lighting Designer

Reports to: Lighting Designer
Job Type: Contract
Location: Dexter, MI

Role Description:
The Assistant Lighting Designer (ALD) supports the Lighting Designer in the planning, documentation, and execution of all lighting elements for a production. This role may also assist the Electrician in hanging electrical elements.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Assist the Lighting Designer in creating and updating lighting plots, paperwork, cue sheets, and focus charts.
  • Attend all required production meetings and tech rehearsals.
  • Support the Lighting Designer during hang, focus, and cueing sessions.
  • Act as a liaison between the Lighting Designer and the spot operators, ensuring accurate implementation of the design.
  • Assist with programming and operating lighting consoles during tech rehearsals (as needed).
  • Document lighting notes, changes, and cue adjustments during the rehearsal and performance process.
  • Ensure the lighting design is preserved during the run of the show, including executing notes or cues in the absence of the designer.
  • Help troubleshoot and maintain lighting equipment in coordination with the Company Electrician as needed.

Qualifications:

  • Experience in theatrical lighting design or related technical theatre work. University students studying lighting design are encouraged to apply.
  • Proficiency in lighting design software and tools (e.g., Vectorworks, Lightwright, ETC EOS family consoles).
  • Strong organizational and documentation skills.
  • Ability to read and interpret lighting plots and technical drawings.
  • Excellent communication and teamwork abilities.
  • Familiarity with different lighting instruments, rigging practices, and control systems.
Hourly Electrician

Reports to: Resident Electrician
Job Type: Contract
Location: Dexter, MI

Role Description:
The Hourly Electrician assists in the implementation, maintenance, and operation of all lighting elements for all mainstage productions. This includes assisting the Resident Electrician in hanging, focusing, troubleshooting, and striking lighting equipment.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Hang, circuit, and focus lighting instruments according to light plots and paperwork provided by the Lighting Designer or Resident Electrician
  • Assist in load-in and strike of lighting equipment and cabling
  • Perform maintenance and troubleshooting of lighting gear and control systems
  • Follow safety procedures when working at height, using ladders, lifts, and power tools.
  • Assist in equipment inventory and storage organization
  • Communicate effectively with designers, stage management, and other technical staff

Qualifications:

  • Prior experience working with theatrical lighting systems
  • Working knowledge of ETC consoles and dimming systems
  • Ability to read and interpret light plots, channel hookups, and other technical paperwork
  • Comfortable working at heights and lifting equipment (up to 50 lbs)
  • Intermediate electrical knowledge and troubleshooting skills
  • Strong teamwork, communication, and time management
  • ETCP certification or equivalent training
  • Basic knowledge of DMX, RDM, and intelligent lighting systems
  • Experience with projection or other multimedia systems is a plus

The general rehearsal schedule per show is as follows:

Monday: No Rehearsal (theater is dark)
Tuesday-Friday: 6pm-10pm
Saturday: 12pm-5pm
Sunday: 1pm-6pm

The general tech rehearsal schedule is as follows:
Sunday: Designer Run 1-6pm
Monday: No Rehearsal (theater is dark)
Tuesday: Sitzprobe 6-10pm
Wednesday-Friday Tech Rehearsals: 6-10pm
Saturday: 10am-8pm (includes 2 hour break, exact times slightly variable per show)
Sunday: First Dress 1-6pm
Monday: No Rehearsal (theater is dark)
Tuesday-Wednesday Dress Rehearsals: 6-10pm

The general performance schedule per show is as follows:

Some Wednesday Matinees at 2:00pm (please check event listings for details)
Thursday Matinees at 2:00pm (with the exception of Opening Night Thursdays at 7:00pm)
Friday Evenings at 7:00pm
Saturdays at 2:00pm and 7:00pm
Sunday Matinees at 2:00pm
