The Encore welcomes back U-M’s prestigious School of Music, Theatre & Dance for their production of BAT BOY: THE MUSICAL
Based on “a true story” in The Weekly World News, this ridiculous, heartfelt musical comedy/horror show is about a half boy/half bat found in a cave in the hills of West Virginia. Bat Boy is taught to act like a “normal” boy, but will his happiness be shattered when the town discovers the shocking secret of his unholy origin? With infectious music and dark humor, this offbeat production challenges conventions and leaves audiences spellbound by its quirky charm.

Chelsea’s Broadway credits include: Wicked, Beautiful: The Carole King Musical, and the original Broadway casts of Promises, Promises, Hands on a Hardbody, and The Radio City Spring Spectacular.
Chelsea is a Clinical Assistant Professor of Voice in the Musical Theatre Department at the University of Michigan. Her students can be seen on Broadway, Off-Broadway, in national tours, on television, and in regional theatres all over the country.

For two weeks in September, The Encore Musical Theatre Company will present the world premiere of New World Comin’, a new work that uses popular songs of the 1960s and ‘70s to explore the intersection of social change, history, and women’s rights. The theatre’s director of marketing sat down with the musical’s creator, Dayle Ann Hunt, who is a resident of Dexter, to give readers exclusive insights into the creation of the show and its first full production.
