FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Dexter, Michigan – June 1, 2021

As pandemic restrictions lift and vaccinations increase, The Encore Musical Theatre Company is inviting patrons back indoors for all-new summer concert series, “Back to Broadway,” with social distancing in mind.

The Back to Broadway Summer Series, with support from Dexter’s own Jan Lyons, kicks off with “Some Enchanted Evening: Songs from the Golden Age” featuring Ali Ewoldt (Christine in Broadway’s “The Phantom of the Opera”) and Stephen West (The Metropolitan Opera and faculty at the University of Michigan) who join familiar Encore mainstays Tyler Messinger and Dawn Purcell.

“Some Enchanted Evening: Songs from the Golden Age” runs Thursday, June 17 through Sunday, June 20 with a celebration of composers such as Gershwin, Rodgers and Hammerstein, Lerner/Loewe, and Irving Berlin among others. Songs featured include “Anything You Can Do,” “I Could Have Danced All Night,” “The Sound of Music” and, of course, “Some Enchanted Evening.”

“We’re returning to the foundations of musical theatre to remember what built this uniquely American art form,” said Artistic Director Dan Cooney. And this approach lets The Encore do beloved songs now “instead of waiting until we can fit these shows into future seasons, adds Cooney. “It’s a fun way to hear Golden Age composers brought to life by incredible talent like Ali and Steve.”

Ewoldt comes to The Encore having performed on Broadway as Christine in “The Phantom of the Opera” and Cosette in “Les Misérables” and as Maria on the first national tour of “West Side Story.”

West, who previously served as chair for the Department of Voice at the University of Michigan School of Music, Theatre, and Dance, has performed with leading symphony orchestras around the world and New York City’s Metropolitan Opera.
